April Showers

At this time of the year we have a phrase that we often use: “April showers bring May flowers.” This is

perhaps just a lyrical way of reminding ourselves that spring is indeed here. And with spring we can see that nature brings renewal to the earth. This renewal is generated by the Creator Himself. Ellen White explains:“The sunshine and the rain, that gladden and refresh the earth, the hills and seas and plains, all speak to us of the Creator’s love.” Steps to Christ, page 9.

After the cataclysmic flood that disrupted all life on earth God promised: While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. Genesis 8:22.

It is our heavenly Father that maintains the seasons that organize our lives. It is also our heavenly Father that refreshes the earth with rain. And as we recognize God’s provision for the plants and animals that depend on Him we need to also remember that God refreshes you and I spiritually. Through Moses God declares: Let my teaching drop as the rain, My speech distill as the dew, As the droplets on the fresh grass And as the showers on the herb. Deuteronomy 32:2.

It is God that truly gladdens both the earth and our souls with life. As we experience the cycles of life it is so important that we look to our heavenly Father in our time of need. It is so important that we understand God’s willingness to give us His Spirit just as He gives the rain to the thirsty ground. God says: For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, And floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, And my blessing upon thine offspring: And they shall spring up as among the grass, As willows by the water courses. Isaiah 44:3,4

Our heavenly Father longs to refresh you with His Spirit. Will you ask Him to give you what He longs to give? Will you receive the rain from heaven and find joy in His presence? Today is the time and now is the season to receive the spiritual blessing from the Creator. Just as the flowers grow when the rain falls so too can we grow when we receive the Spirit of God. Let the April showers bring the May flowers in your heart.

Not “If" But “When”

Today I would like to look at an interesting study on Deuteronomy 4:29. Let’s begin with the text which reads: But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29 NKJV There is an “If” in this passage that gives me pause. It seems to imply that the search for God is primarily initiated by our own desires. However I believe there is more to this thought from Moses. I am greatly indebted to the following YouTube Channel  watch  for the initial direction of this blog. Please check out the channel’s video for an in depth study of the passage.  Now returning to our study it is important to note that while the “If” is present in Deuteronomy 4:29 it is not in the parallel passage of Jeremiah 29:13 which says: 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13 NKJV Both contexts are the same. Both are talking about what would happen to the Is...

Who is Melchizedek?

Melchizedek is a mysterious figure in the Bible. He appears abruptly with great importance and yet his identity seems unclear. Let's see what we can discover. In Hebrews 7:1-3 it says: 1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,  2 to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated “king of righteousness,” and then also king of Salem, meaning “king of peace,”  3 without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually. Hebrews 7:1-3 With this text in mind let’s look at some of the characteristics of Melchizedek. 1. He was the King of Salem. Salem means peace. He was the King of Peace. Jesus is called the Prince of Peace in Isaiah 9:6. It says: For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And H...

The Order of the End

Have you ever wondered how the final events of the earth will wrap up for God’s people? There are many answers to that question, but for God’s people there are a few steps that we should all know. And these steps are given in Acts 3:19,20 which says:  Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 20  And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Acts 3:19,20 Notice that there are three things that happen: first we are told to repent, second we are told that if we repent there will be a refreshing and finally we are told that after these things happen Jesus will return. Repentance, refreshing, and the return of Christ in that order. So let’s briefly look at each of these concepts. First repentance is a turning away from sin. The actual old testament concept of repentance means to literally turn off the path towards something else. But did you know that repent...
