For many little ones and even some not so little ones school is out for the summer. And at this point, school isn’t exactly what most students are thinking about. But of course even if school is out there is still learning to be had. After all, life presents opportunities for learning far past our time in formal school. But did you know that if we are heaven-bound our education is only just
beginning? We are told in the Spirit of Prophecy that we will continue to study throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity. Ellen White explains:
Heaven is a school; its field of study, the universe; its teacher, the Infinite One. A branch of this school wasestablished in Eden; and, the plan of redemptionaccomplished, education will again be taken up in the Eden school. Heaven, p146.
Can you imagine sitting under the giant boughs of a great tree and listening to the eternal truths straight from the lips of our Creator? We will have the opportunity to learn on the greatest campus in the universe. What a privilege! But what will be our primary subject of study? Ellen White says:
The theme of redemption is one that the angels desire to look into; it will be the science and the song of the redeemed throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity. Is it not worthy of careful thought and study now? The infinite love and mercy of Jesus, the sacrifice made in our behalf, calls for the most serious and solemn reflection. CE 57.
After all that God has done for us and is doing through us shouldn’t we study salvation? Shouldn’t we learn the great principles of redemption? If we are to be children of God shouldn’t we also be students of our Savior? Jesus says:
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3
Eternal life is knowing God and knowing God means that we learn about Him. It is infinitely important that our education continue. An American lawyer by the name of Newton D. Baker is quoted as saying:
“The man who graduates today and stops learning tomorrow is uneducated the day after.”
If we are to be included among the redeemed then we must continue to study our redemption. The science of salvation must captivate our thoughts. The apostle Paul says:
…be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2
Is it your desire to know the divine teacher? Then consider His curriculum, focus on faith and listen to lessons of Jesus.
